My friend, Salim Ismail, has posted a review of Maxroam, a service that allows you to cut down dramatically on your roaming charges when you travel abroad. I have yet to use it (although I have a Maxroam SIM card). Maxroam saved Salim a lot of money: $185 during a two-week trip.

Nokia has just released two E Series smartphones, the E71 (pictured above) and the E66. I prefer the E71 because it has a QWERTY keyboard. Make sure you read the fine print. In the case of T-Mobile Germany, you’ll be punished severely if you exceed their data limits. Most 3G operators will have the same restrictions, despite their marketing babble about “Internet Everywhere” and “Broadband on the Move” and most dishonest of all, “unlimited, flat-rate data!”
