Heroex is a startup based in San Francisco that specializes in local one-hour delivery service for things that can be purchased in the city, which include books, drugstore items, computer cables, and more. The advantage of using Heroex is that the delivery rates are quite reasonable, ranging between $9 and $12, which is lower than Fedex.
Here’s how Heroex works: you go to the website, click to buy the items you need, select the delivery time, pay via Paypal and wait for your items to arrive. For items not listed on the Heroex website, you can do a “custom request”. For example, if I am too busy to go to a department store to buy Aqua di Parma perfume which I want to give as a present to someone this evening, I can tell Heroex to buy it for me at Bloomingdale’s or Saks, give them the money and Heroex will buy it and deliver it to me. I can see how Heroex will come in handy this Valentine’s Day!
Heroex works very well for people who:
- need office items such as computer cables but they’re too busy to go out and buy them;
- are very busy and need to get a present for someone’s birthday or anniversary that same day;
- are visiting San Francisco for a day or two, and are too busy running around to buy items they wanted to get at one of the local boutiques;
- are house-bound because of an illness or because they are recuperating from surgery; or
- are too lazy to go out and buy stuff.
Heroex was started in 2009 by serial entrepreneur Marissa Louie, who started Ad-Village and Futurent. At present, Heroex has 6 people working at their San Francisco office. They “crowdsource” delivery people from the community. I will be posting an interview with Marissa Louie this week so look out for it on Pajama Entrepreneur.
