Tal.ki is a new online service from Lefora that allows you to create and embed a forum on your blog or website in less than 10 minutes. Below is a screenshot of the forum I created on MuniWireless.com using Tal.ki:

MuniWireless Forum

Forum members sign in via Facebook, Twitter, Yahoo, and other accounts. The forum administrator (me) can ban members who are misbehaving, but also make other members into admins. The most compelling feature of Tal.ki is that it’s so easy to set up. All you do is sign up on Tal.ki and embed (into your website) the code that they give you. If you use WordPress (self-hosted), there are instructions on the Tal.ki site that make this literally a less than 5 minute install.

Tal.ki has a free version (5 forums, 15 recent posts, unlimited posting, unlimited uses) and paid versions if you run several forums, need SEO juice and more. The Pro version is $9.95 per month; the Platinum and Max versions are $59 per month and $249 per month, respectively.

Who should use Tal.ki

Tal.ki’s forum service is great for blogs that have a lot of members giving one another advice, searching for the best products and services. Now, on MuniWireless, my readers can post questions about how to set up a large community Wi-Fi network, which equipment they should use, what applications to run on the network, which business models work, where to get funding, etc. Others can recommend systems integrators, and can post their own advice about wireless node density and type of equipment. They can also post comments on who has successfully deployed these networks and how they have done it.

For me it means I don’t have to forward (to experts I know) the emails I get regularly from people asking for advice, and I get to consolidate these valuable conversations and comment threads in one place. Right now, they are all over the place — in my emails and on Linked In.
