I am writing this post from Chile, where we are spending about two weeks. My partner, Arnon Kohavi, was invited to speak. The meetup attracted about 60 people; many were from Chile but a significant number were from Argentina, Colombia, Venezuela and Ecuador.
Startup Chile is an initiative of the Chilean government to bring foreign tech entrepreneurs to Chile to work with local entrepreneurs and share their knowledge. Startup Chile provides a $40,000 subsidy to participate for six months, and grants a temporary 1-year visa to foreign entrepreneurs who qualify. The deadline for applications for 2011 is approaching. They aim to have 300 entrepreneurs participate next year.
One of my friends, Shahar Nechmad, an Israeli entrepreneur living in Silicon Valley, participated in Startup Chile and wrote a very long blog post about his experiences living and working in Chile. Read Building Your Dreams in Chile.
